Norwegian authorities introduced new rules on working at height with effect from 1 January 2016. The biggest change concerned new training requirements for scaffolders. It is Chapter 17 of the "Regulations on the performance of work" that was revised. Training for scaffolders is now divided according to the height of the scaffold. Scaffolders who will build scaffolds over two metres must be trained in assembly, dismantling, modification and inspection of scaffolding. The training must also enable workers to assess the condition of the scaffolding material and the need for maintenance.
According to the "Regulations on the performance of work" No. 1357, Section 17-4, the employer must ensure that employees who will work with the assembly, disassembly, modification and inspection of scaffolding with an upper scaffolding floor of nine meters receive training. This also applies to scaffolding that is not assembled in a standard configuration according to the supplier's assembly instructions, regardless of the scaffolding's upper floor height.
PURPOSE
Provide theoretical training to personnel who will assemble, dismantle, modify and inspect scaffolding with an upper scaffolding floor over nine meters in standard configuration.
A full-fledged scaffolding course over 9 meters is 108 hours, divided into 36 hours of theory and 72 hours of practice.
To satisfy the regulations' training requirements for those who build scaffolding over 9 meters, in addition to the theory course, you must document practice:
Documentation of practice
72 hours of practice can be completed in the following ways:
1. You complete 2 weeks (72 hours) of practice with at least three different scaffolding types on a course with us or our partner.
2. Document 2 weeks (72 hours) of practice with at least three different types of scaffolding in your own company by a competent person, on a practice form.
ATTENTION:
You must also document employment for at least 6 months in a business that uses scaffolding. Documents for completion are provided in the course.
