GTM Kompetanse|

In the construction and industrial sectors, both hot work and fire protection are important topics for workplace safety. Although the two terms are often used interchangeably, they cover different types of training with different purposes and content. Here we explain what distinguishes hot work from fire protection courses, and why both are essential for a safe working day.

What is hot work?

Hot work is work that involves the use of open flames or heat that can cause ignition. Examples of this include welding, cutting, using propane torches, and grinding. Due to the increased risk of fire, hot work requires specific training and certification. This course provides you with knowledge on how to prevent fires, secure the work area, use appropriate protective equipment, and handle emergencies.

The hot work course is required by law for those performing such tasks, and the certificate is valid for five years. For more information and to register, see Hot work – online course .

What is a fire safety course?

Fire safety courses cover a broader range of topics in fire prevention and emergency preparedness. The course provides basic knowledge about fire hazards, the use of firefighting equipment, evacuation and the organisation of fire safety work in the workplace. Fire safety courses are not limited to hot work, but are relevant for all employees in a business to ensure that everyone knows how to act in the event of a fire.

This course provides expertise in preventing fires and minimizing damage in the event of a fire, and is an important part of the company's HSE work. Read more about our fire safety courses here: Fire safety courses .
