In this course you will learn how to prevent drowning accidents and detect danger signals in and around water. You will gain insight into how to act quickly and correctly if someone is in distress. The course includes various rescue techniques in water, as well as training in cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR). After the practical exercises in water, a final lifesaving test is conducted.
When school staff are responsible for students during swimming or activities near water, at least one adult is required to have a valid lifesaving certificate. A supervisor may be responsible for up to 15 children or young people, and must be proficient in swimming, diving and lifesaving in a safe and effective manner.
