Hvem stiller krav til varme arbeider-sertifikat?

Who requires a hot worker certificate?

When carrying out work involving open flames, high temperatures or equipment that can create sparks, it is crucial to have the right expertise. Hot work is a common term for such activities, and in Norway there are clear requirements that these must only be carried out by people with a valid certificate. But who actually sets these requirements?

Insurance companies set the standard

The requirement for a hot worker certificate comes primarily from the insurance industry in Norway, represented by Finans Norge . In collaboration with the Norwegian Fire Protection Association, safety regulations have been drawn up that are part of the terms and conditions of most commercial insurance.

In short: If hot work is carried out without certified personnel, the insurance company may deny compensation in the event of a fire. This applies to both your own employees and hired contractors.

Employer's responsibility

In addition to insurance requirements, employers also have a responsibility under the Working Environment Act. The employer must ensure that employees have the necessary training, and that the work can be carried out safely and in accordance with applicable regulations. When hot work is part of the job, a valid certificate will be a natural part of this training.

What is considered hot work?

Examples of work that requires a certificate:

  • Welding, cutting, grinding and soldering
  • Use of angle grinders, heat guns and other spark-producing tools
  • Roofing with open flame or hot air

It is not only industrial companies that are covered - building and construction projects, plumbing work and individual assignments in private homes may also be covered.
