Scaffolding Course for Safe Assembly: Levels and Requirements

To ensure safety when erecting scaffolding, training is required according to the height of the scaffold. There are three different scaffolding course modules, which address different height levels and areas of responsibility. Let's take a closer look at who needs scaffolding training and what you can expect to learn on these courses.

Scaffolding course requirements

Anyone responsible for the assembly, inspection and dismantling of facade scaffolding in a work context must complete the relevant scaffolding course according to the height of the scaffolding. There are three levels of scaffolding course: up to 5 meters , between 5 and 9 meters , and over 9 meters . Workers who only travel on scaffolding do not need a scaffolding course , but must complete a scaffolding user course that can be adapted to the company's needs.

Content of the scaffolding courses

Before starting a scaffolding course, participants must have received training in the use of fall protection equipment. Each course consists of both theoretical and practical training, and both parts must be passed to receive a course certificate. The theoretical part of the course covers relevant regulations, planning, erection, inspection and dismantling of scaffolding, use of assembly instructions, personal protective equipment, collective and personal fall protection equipment, safe job analysis, scaffolding signage, load classes, material quality, wind pressure and test methods. The practical part includes risk assessment, self-protection, assembly and dismantling of facade scaffolding.

Scaffolding courses at different height levels

Depending on the heights you work at and are responsible for, you will need different levels of scaffolding courses . Please note that the courses are not extension courses, as they are independent of each other.

  1. Scaffolding course 2-5 meters: This course is suitable for those working at lower heights. Theory: 7.5 hours Practice: 7.5 hours

  2. Scaffolding course 2-9 meters : This course is common among builders and carpenters, but if you work with very large buildings, it may be appropriate to take the next level. Theory: 15 hours Practice: 15 hours

  3. Scaffolding course over 9 meters: This course qualifies you to set up, inspect, approve and work on scaffolding with a platform height over 9 meters. The course is common among builders and carpenters who work on taller and more advanced buildings. Theory: 36 hours Practice: 72 hours

To ensure safety when erecting scaffolding, it is important to complete a scaffolding course that is adapted to the height of the scaffolding. Workers who are responsible for erecting, checking and dismantling must complete a scaffolding course according to the height at which they work. The various courses cover both theoretical and practical training, and both must be passed.
